16 mile long run: really nice morning for running. I ran 8 mile at around 6:45 pace then went straight into 6 x 1 mile repeats on the road with 1 min jogs. Splits on those were 5:37 5:34 5:33 5:32 5:29 5:21. Felt pretty good today. Pushed the last half of the last one. 6:22 avg

Looking good, Derek. I like the long "warm up." We do hard, race-paced efforts in marathon training, why don't we for half marathon training? Honestly, it never occurred to me until now and I've been watching you do these workouts for a while. Good stuff.

Thanks Jason. In Boston I felt weak when things got tough so I figured I'd practice running fast off a faster pace so I could practice. I'm not sure if I'm doing the right thing but I'm trying it out. In general I think it's a good idea to put quality portions in your long runs and to push them to the back half of the run.

Excellent workout! I think you are spot on with your training! Doing workouts such as this will definitely pay big dividends.

Solid as usual - you make a good habit of making your weekend longer runs really count.
