Total Distance
16.75

16.75 miles with progressive tempo: Warmed up 6 miles then did a 10 mile segment with a goal of sub 60 minutes with each mile faster than the last. For whatever reason I wasn't feeling great this morning and I almost pulled the plug after a couple of the faster miles. I'm glad I didn't because I ended up with a good run and not feeling too bad. Splits of the 10 mile tempo (59:03) were 6:06, 6:05, 6:00, 5:58, 5:55, 5:53, 5:51, 5:47, 5:45, 5:40. I cooled down just a little to shake out the legs a little.  The end of this run was tough. I was hoping for better weather but that will come next week.

Nice run Derek.

I think you said you are just running HMs and below this fall, right? No marathons until Boston?

Jake: Right, no marathons until Boston. I've got a 5k next week, Long Beach Half, the 10k here in early Nov, 10k Turkey Trot in Mesa, then Tucson Half. Tucson is probably 60-90 seconds aided for the half. I hope I can break 1:10 there. After that I'll do some easy running for a couple weeks then build up for Boston. I'd like to be able to get a bunch of 90 mile weeks in for that. How are you feeling today?

That's what I thought. Very sensible. Boston will be a long buildup.

I'm going to be in Phoenix for Thanksgiving this year. Not taking the usual trip to Connecticut if I end up running CIM, so I've got the Mesa 10K on my radar as well. I want it to be like 2 years ago when a couple guys broke 30!

I feel good today. Like I ran a hard half. Not running though, just lazying around all day. Spent about 45 minutes in the hot tub at the gym this morning. Tough workout :-)

Jake and I will get to see you two at the 10k in Mesa on Thanksgiving!

Great! It will be nice to see you guys. There are a few races here on Thanksgiving. A 10 mile race on the west side has a history of some fast time. The Mesa 10k will be most convenient and you will both take home Turkeys. It is a well organized race and they get you out of there pretty quick so you can go eat and watch football. Jake, I hope you get some fast guys to race with. Some years it is randomly very fast.
