Easy 8 + strides today.  Started off slower than normal and ended a little faster than normal for an easy day.  As usual, it felt great to loosen up my legs with strides.

I wrote a post on our blog about increasing mileage and being careful not to "chase" high mileage.  Worth a read if your thinking about increasing mileage.

I'll run less than 25 today in honor of your blog post :-)

Very good blog post. I am in the process of running my highest mileage ever and it's definitely a juggling and balancing act. You try to get high miles, but you don't want to overdo it. What you wrote was great and the only thing I would add would be knowing and checking your resting heart rate.

One way to "monitor" your training is checking your resting heart rate daily. If your RHR is elevated by a few beats, you may be overtraining and/or getting sick and you should back off.

+1 on the resting heart rate check. I've been doing it every morning for about a year now. Once you've been doing it for a while, the numbers actually mean something. I can graph it and every time there is a little spike, it correlates with a really hard race or workout. Its a great indicator (or, at the very least, a warning signal to back off the intensity)

Thanks Riley and good info on the resting heart rate.

Jake: you are exempt from all mileage limitations. You can do 30 today :)

Great blog post - I completely agree! Everyone is different and there are so many other factors that are involved.

Some great points, Derek, especially about the pressure of social media. Social media like this site is great in terms of figuring out what others are doing (what other runners around your same times or a bit faster say).
